Austrian military stations Eurofighters at Klagenfurt for 20th time

Austria's armed forces have again deployed Eurofighter jets to Klagenfurt Airport for a short airspace surveillance rotation, the 20th such stationing at the Carinthian airport.

Austria's armed forces have moved Eurofighter jets to Klagenfurt Airport for a deployment running from 16 to 19 October 2026, the Austrian military said. It is the 20th time the fighter aircraft have been stationed at the Carinthian airport. The jets arrived on Friday 16 October and are due to return to their home base at Zeltweg on Monday.

During the stay the aircraft take over active airspace surveillance. Launches take place only for so-called Priority Alpha missions. These include cases where air traffic control cannot reach an aircraft by radio, or where foreign military aircraft enter Austrian airspace without authorisation.

No training or practice flights are planned from Klagenfurt. Civil flight operations continue without restriction.
