VINCI begins Lyon-Saint Exupéry Terminal 2 redevelopment
VINCI Airports has started work on a redevelopment of Terminal 2 at Lyon-Saint Exupéry, with the upgraded facility due to open in 2029, before the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps.

VINCI Airports has started redeveloping Terminal 2 at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport. The terminal is due to open in 2029, ahead of the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in the French Alps.
The project forms part of a wider investment programme worth more than €380 million over seven years. That programme hinges on an economic regulation agreement being signed with the French government by spring 2027.
Terminal 2 will gain 9,500 square metres of new space, and 12,000 square metres of existing areas will be modernised. The operator lists next-generation security screening, new retail and leisure areas, and an enlarged bus station among the changes. The bus station is meant to improve onward connections, particularly to Alpine resorts.
Terminal 1 is due to get the same screening technology in summer 2027. Other operational changes include better handling of oversized baggage such as skis and bicycles and more flexible use of aircraft stands. An energy-efficiency refurbishment is planned to cut the terminal's carbon footprint.
According to the operator, the redevelopment is intended to strengthen Lyon's position as a gateway to the Alps, support tourism through the year and prepare the airport for Olympic delegations, spectators and other international visitors.
