Frankfurt airport gets €8.7m to switch ground power away from diesel
Germany's federal transport ministry is funding a shift to electric and pre-conditioned-air ground supply at Frankfurt, with all 252 aircraft parking positions to be covered by 2030.

Frankfurt Airport will get around 8.7 million euros from the federal transport ministry to modernise its ground supply equipment, replacing diesel-powered units.
By 2030 all 252 aircraft parking positions at the airport are to have either a fixed electrical connection or battery-electric ground power units, Fraport, the airport operator, said. Fraport is receiving 227,000 euros for two more battery units, taking its fleet of such devices to 18. It plans to have 22 by 2029.
Another 8.5 million euros goes to equipment that supplies parked aircraft with pre-conditioned air. By 2029, 18 positions at Pier A of Terminal 1 are to have the technology, which lets cabins be cooled or heated without running kerosene-powered auxiliary power units. Two positions already have it.
Fraport says it aims to cut annual greenhouse gas emissions at Frankfurt to 50,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2030.
