Avinor passenger numbers pass 40 million as international travel grows

Norwegian airport operator Avinor handled 40.94 million passengers in the first nine months of the year, with international traffic providing most of the growth.

Avinor, the company that runs Norway's airports, reported 40.94 million passengers between January and September, 1.6% more than in the same period a year earlier.

September alone accounted for just under five million travellers, a rise of 1.2% year on year. International services did most of the work: they carried 2.12 million people during the month, up 3%. Domestic passenger numbers were almost flat at 2.83 million, a dip of 0.1%.

Commercial aircraft movements edged up 0.2% in September to 58,284.

Oslo Airport handled 2.55 million passengers in the month, 1.1% more than a year earlier, putting its cumulative figure 0.4% ahead of the equivalent point in 2025.

Of Avinor's larger airports, Bergen posted the biggest increase over the nine months, with passenger numbers 6% higher. Its September total reached 661,369, up 2.5%.

Tromsø also grew, with 228,047 passengers in September, an increase of 3%, while its year-to-date total was 4.3% higher.

Trondheim and Stavanger both slipped in September, by 0.3% and 1.6% respectively, and each remained below its level for the same period last year.
