Delta to extend free Wi-Fi to transpacific flights

Delta Air Lines says it will bring its free onboard Wi-Fi to long-haul transpacific routes starting later this month, after receiving regulatory approval to expand the service.

Delta Air Lines will offer free Wi-Fi on its long-haul transpacific flights, the carrier said. The service, branded Delta Sync, is already available on more than 95 percent of its fleet, and installation on Pacific routes is set to begin later this month.

Delta said it recently received regulatory approval to widen the rollout. It did not name the routes involved. Its transpacific network reaches Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Manila, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

According to the carrier, it will be the only U.S. global carrier offering free Wi-Fi across its whole network.
