An emergency evacuation slide on a British Airways Boeing 787-10 inflated accidentally while the aircraft was on the ground at Montreal, disrupting operations and delaying the flight to London Heathrow. The slide deployed from the rear left door while a catering truck was alongside the aircraft.
Ground crews halted preparations and safety teams inspected the plane. The aircraft, registered G-ZBLA, was scheduled to operate flight BA94 to Heathrow. It eventually departed and arrived in London two hours and 30 minutes behind schedule.
The airline then cancelled the aircraft's next assignment, flight BA189 to Newark, because maintenance checks were needed following the accidental deployment. Specialized technicians must disconnect, repack, or replace the slide mechanism before the door can be certified for normal operations again.
