Fatal overrun after Amazon Air 767 landing in Miami

A Boeing 767-300F operated by 21 Air for Amazon Air overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, as flight 2I7598. The aircraft, registered N1997A, continued beyond the runway end, broke through the airport fence, crossed Northwest 42nd Avenue, and collided with several vehicles before coming to rest.
The Miami-Dade County Fire Department said five people were injured, three seriously. Miami-Dade County mayor Daniella Levine Cava confirmed five fatalities. Footage from the scene showed flames and thick smoke from the freighter, with several vehicles severely damaged. Some motorists had to be freed from their cars, and the pilots could not leave the cockpit unaided.
Videos of the approach show the left main landing gear did not touch the runway after touchdown. The airport suspended operations after the accident; arriving flights were diverted and all runways were closed for a time.
