Frankfurt passenger traffic flat in August while cargo grows

Frankfurt Airport saw nearly flat passenger numbers in August 2026, with cargo volumes up, while most other Fraport airports reported growth.

Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport was almost unchanged in August 2026 compared with a year earlier. The total of roughly 6.3 million was down 0.3 percent, though it was the busiest month of the year so far. Two days that month each saw more than 220,000 passengers, the highest daily figures of 2026.

Cargo throughput increased 2.9 percent to 179,400 tonnes.

Aircraft movements decreased 4.6 percent to 40,968 take-offs and landings. Accumulated maximum take-off weight fell 1.6 percent to about 2.6 million tonnes.

Most of Fraport's international airports recorded passenger growth. Ljubljana rose 19.3 percent to 222,231 passengers. The group's 14 Greek airports grew 5.1 percent, Lima and the two Brazilian airports 4.9 percent, and Burgas and Varna 2.1 percent. Antalya was the main exception, slipping 0.9 percent to 5.9 million passengers.

Across all actively managed Fraport airports, passenger numbers increased 2.1 percent to approximately 24.1 million.
