Garuda Indonesia has named Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro as its new chief executive, replacing Glenny H. Kairupan, who moves to lead the supervisory board.

Oentoro had been deputy chief executive since October 2025. He previously worked for Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund INA, among other roles.

Other senior positions also changed hands. Alan McIntyre, previously at Qantas and Jetstar, takes charge of the commercial division, and Neil Raymond Mills becomes transformation director.

Garuda remains in financial difficulty. Revenue rose 16 percent in the first half of 2026, while the net loss narrowed 23 percent to 113 million dollars, or about 97 million euros. Equity remains negative.
