Higher fuel and emissions costs push Aegean Airlines to a first-half loss

Aegean Airlines posted a net loss of 3.3 million euros for the first half of 2026, against a profit of 47.9 million euros a year earlier, according to the airline's figures.

Revenue rose four percent to 816.6 million euros, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation fell seven percent to 145.3 million euros.

Higher fuel and emissions costs added a net burden of 40 million euros, and currency losses of 14.1 million euros, weighing on the result.

Passenger numbers increased three percent to 7.8 million. Domestic traffic grew six percent, but international business was flat after connections to the Middle East were suspended for a time. Load factor slipped to 80.3 percent.

In the second quarter alone, the carrier still made a net profit of 18.5 million euros, 66 percent less than a year before.
