A court in Italy has cleared 14 former executives and supervisory figures at Alitalia of fraudulent bankruptcy and other corporate offences. The acts they were accused of had not taken place, the court said.
Those acquitted include former Alitalia president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, former chief executives Silvano Cassano and Cramer Ball, and former finance chief Duncan Naysmith. Criminal liability for the company Alitalia Sai was also ruled out.
The case concerned how the airline was run between 2014 and 2017. Alitalia was declared insolvent in 2017 and placed under special administration.
