Jetstar carries trial passengers at Western Sydney International Airport ahead of October opening

Western Sydney International Airport has hosted a trial Jetstar flight carrying hundreds of volunteer passengers ahead of its first commercial service on October 25.

The trial participants are members of the public who volunteer to help test all stages of the terminal customer journey and associated services, systems, and staff. Their feedback is meant to improve the airport experience.

Matt Duffy, the airport's chief operating officer, said the final phase of operational preparations began in August and involves hundreds of trial participants each week. By October, thousands are expected to have taken part. Duffy said the trials stress-test systems, processes and people, making them as fail-safe as possible.

The trials also give airport staff experience with the dynamic nature of round-the-clock operations, according to Duffy. He noted that interest from community volunteers was overwhelming, with thousands of trial slots filled within days.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the trial flight was an important test to ensure the airport is ready to go.
