Jetstar Completes Trial Flight at Western Sydney Airport
Jetstar operated a trial flight into Western Sydney International Airport eight weeks before the start of commercial passenger services, practicing arrival, departure, and ground handling procedures.
Jetstar completed a trial flight at Western Sydney International Airport on Tuesday, marking a milestone ahead of the airport's opening. An A320 touched down and later departed, simulating the operations the airline will use when commercial flights begin on Sunday 25 October.
The exercise included practicing the end-to-end customer experience with the airport team. Crew flew the arrival and departure exactly as planned for October, then worked through ground procedures including the taxi route to the gate, aerobridge alignment, and aircraft turnaround.
Jetstar will be the first airline to operate passenger flights from the airport. Its first commercial service, flight JQ362 to the Gold Coast, is scheduled for an 11:00 departure on 25 October. The trial flight gives the airline about eight weeks to incorporate lessons into procedures and crew briefings. Australia has not opened a major new airport of this kind in more than 50 years.
