Newcastle Airport posts record passenger numbers
Newcastle Airport in Australia has recorded its highest ever 12-month passenger total, exceeding 1.3 million, a 10% increase over the previous year.

Newcastle Airport has set a new record for passenger numbers, surpassing 1.3 million passengers in a 12-month period for the first time. This represents a 10% increase on the previous financial year, according to airport chair Samantha Martin-Williams.
The growth was driven in part by new services to Denpasar (Bali), Perth, and Hobart, which contributed more than 94,000 additional passenger movements during the year. Martin-Williams said the result reflected strong regional demand for greater connectivity.
In July, the airport handled 112,689 passengers, making it the busiest July on record. This surpassed the previous record set in 2017.
The milestone follows the airport being named Airport of the Year in the Australian Aviation Awards. CEO Linc Horton said the award belonged to the community, businesses, governments, and partners who supported the airport's growth. Over the past year, the airport opened its international terminal and launched four new routes.
