Lufthansa and Munich Airport expand stopover programme to five Asian markets
Lufthansa and Munich Airport are extending their joint stopover scheme to passengers from China, India, Japan, South Korea and Thailand, allowing longer layovers in Munich.
Lufthansa and Munich Airport have expanded their joint stopover programme to five more Asian markets. Passengers flying Lufthansa from China, India, Japan, South Korea and Thailand can now book an extended stay in Munich as part of their journey, according to the companies.
Under the scheme, travellers can break their trip at the Lufthansa hub for between 24 hours and seven days, giving them time to explore Munich and the surrounding region. Twelve partner businesses currently take part, offering hotel stays, car rentals, sightseeing and shopping options tied to the programme.
The offer launched in spring 2026, when it was first made available to travellers from Singapore and the United States. The expansion now brings in a broader set of source markets across Asia.
Lufthansa and the airport said the aim is to draw more international visitors to Munich and the wider Bavaria region by encouraging passengers to turn a transit stop into a short visit. Both partners said they plan to keep expanding the programme over time, adding further origin markets and tourism partners as it develops.
No pricing details or specific passenger volume targets were disclosed in connection with the expansion. The airport and airline described the initiative as a tourism and connectivity measure, not a change to flight schedules or route networks.
