Netherlands to field single Saab GlobalEye from 2031
The Netherlands plans to acquire one Saab GlobalEye AEW&C aircraft for service from 2031, joining a pool with Sweden's three aircraft and supporting a NATO capability.
The Netherlands plans to operate one Saab GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft from 2031. A letter of intent signed with Sweden on 10 September sets up a joint operating model, under which the Dutch aircraft would join a pool with three Swedish GlobalEye aircraft.
Royal Netherlands Air Force crews could deploy on Swedish aircraft as early as 2028. Sweden expects its first GlobalEye next year. The aircraft is based on the Bombardier Global 6000/6500.
The Netherlands is among ten NATO allies investing in GlobalEye as a replacement for the Boeing E-3 AWACS fleet. The Dutch defence ministry says having its own aircraft will allow more independent decisions on deployment. No contract has been signed, and Saab says it has not received an order.
