Nor'easter grounds hundreds of flights across the US Northeast
A nor'easter brought heavy rain and strong winds to the US Northeast, forcing airlines to cancel hundreds of flights, with Boston Logan hit hardest. Delta and Cape Air issued travel waivers for affected passengers.
A nor'easter moving across the US Northeast has disrupted air travel, with Boston Logan International Airport recording 253 cancellations and 36 delays on September 26, 2026, according to FlightAware figures. The disruption was expected to continue into Sunday, September 27.
Delta Air Lines said it anticipated a significant number of cancellations at Logan on Sunday because of the weather and offered travel flexibility to customers holding affected bookings. Cape Air and Delta were among the carriers hardest hit at the airport, with Cape Air cancelling 115 flights and Delta 95 on September 26, FlightAware data reported by The Boston Globe showed.
Cape Air said it had cancelled all flights in its North Region because of the weather. Passengers booked on affected North Region routes between September 25 and 28 were told they could move to alternative flights through October 2 without extra fees.
The effects spread beyond Boston. On September 26, FlightAware logged 66 cancellations at Nantucket Memorial Airport and 44 at Martha's Vineyard Airport, both of which form part of Cape Air's regional network.
Airports in New York and Philadelphia were also affected. Several airlines introduced travel waivers giving passengers more flexibility. The exact number of cancellations continued to change as carriers updated their schedules.
