Poland's planned mega-hub unveils airport operations control centre design

Port Polska has released initial designs for an Airport Operations Control Centre at the new Polish hub it is building between Warsaw and Łódź. The centre would bring airport operational teams, airlines, government services and other organisations involved in the airport's daily running into one shared working space.

According to the project, access to live operational data would let the teams responsible for airport operations spot delays, disruptions and emergency situations and respond quickly. The aim is to limit the effect of such events on airport capacity, operational continuity and passengers' journeys.

The control centre is one of several projects being delivered under contracts covering the design of facilities that support the airport. Design work under the supporting infrastructure programme also covers an air traffic control tower, a police station, a multi-storey car park, airport rescue and firefighting facilities, and catering facilities.

Port Polska is planned around integrating air, rail and road transport, which the project says would make transfers between modes easier and provide more efficient connections inside Poland and to international destinations. The airport and the first section of the high-speed rail network are scheduled to open to passengers in 2032.
