Near the airport, flames and a large black cloud of smoke could be seen. Reuters reported smoke above an area containing fuel tanks.
The Houthi said it hit "sensitive targets" in Riyadh with missiles and drones. Saudi Arabia said its air defence intercepted a ballistic missile fired at the capital. Initially there was no information on damage or injuries.
Flights were delayed or cancelled.
