Riyadh Airport is closed until at least 18 October following a strike on a terminal building that killed at least 12 people and injured hundreds more, according to an account of the disruption in Saudi Arabia. The closure is among the most severe effects of a series of strikes on the kingdom's aviation infrastructure.

Other Saudi airports have also been affected. Jeddah and Dammam have both faced disruption, and airports in the southwest of the country were closed during the week.

Separately, Israel has barred airline crews from a long list of countries from operating flights to and from the country, a move that has left some carriers scrambling to adjust their schedules.

Two retirement milestones are also in progress. Austrian Airlines is preparing to retire its 767 fleet at the end of next month, closing out five decades of operating the type. Lufthansa is due to operate its last A340-600 flight, LH419 from Washington-Dulles to Frankfurt, on 18 October.
