Russia's PD-8 engine enters serial production after certification
The Aviadvigatel PD-8 engine has entered serial production following type certification in June 2026, with the first two units delivered in August.

The Aviadvigatel PD-8 engine has entered serial production, according to Russian manufacturer UEC. Type certification for the engine, designed for around 8 tonnes of takeoff thrust, was granted in June 2026. The first two serial production units were handed over to a customer in August.\n\nThe PD-8 is based on technologies from the larger PD-14 and has a dry weight of roughly 1.7 tonnes. UEC said 25 critical technologies and materials are used, 17 of them new. During certification the engine completed more than 6,500 hours of testing, including under icing conditions and in hail, bird strike and water ingestion trials.
