SpiceJet Ends Boeing 737 MAX Operations, Fleet Down to 11 Aircraft
SpiceJet has terminated leases for three Boeing 737 MAX jets with BOC Aviation, ending its use of the type and reducing its active fleet to 11 aircraft amid ongoing financial troubles.
SpiceJet has ended its Boeing 737 MAX operations after mutually terminating lease agreements for three aircraft with BOC Aviation. The jets will be transferred to the Philippines.
The Indian carrier's active fleet now stands at 11 aircraft, according to the airline. SpiceJet has faced financial difficulties for months, including delayed salary payments and supplier dues. Lessors have previously repossessed aircraft over outstanding payments.
The airline's domestic market share in India fell from 3.9 percent in January to 1.6 percent in July. Since 2018, SpiceJet had taken delivery of only 13 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
