Swiss Retires Another Ex-Swissair Airbus A321
Swiss has withdrawn an Airbus A321-100 that originally flew for Swissair from service, sending it to Spain for scrapping after nearly three decades of operation.
Swiss has retired another Airbus A321 that previously served with Swissair. The aircraft, registered HB-IOH, departed Zurich on Monday morning for Teruel, Spain, where it will be dismantled.
The A321-100 was delivered to Swissair in March 1997, according to Tages-Anzeiger. Over 29 years, it accumulated 74,371 flight hours and 47,632 cycles. Its last commercial flight was on August 31 from Luxembourg to Zurich.
Before scrapping, both engines, the auxiliary power unit, and other usable components will be removed and returned to Zurich for further use. Eight aircraft that once flew for Swissair remain in the Swiss fleet.
