Trump Threatens to Ban Bombardier Sales in the US

US President Donald Trump threatened to ban sales of Bombardier aircraft in the United States, writing on social media that no more Bombardier sales would be allowed. He said the Canadian manufacturer should produce in the US and stop treating the country like a piggy bank. Trump did not specify how such a ban would be enforced.

The threat overlooks that Bombardier already manufactures in the United States, employing 3,500 people at facilities in several states. The company produces special mission aircraft in Kansas, Global 8000 wings in Texas, and flight control components in the Los Angeles area. Bombardier buys more than $2.5 billion annually from about 2,800 US suppliers in 47 states, according to the company. A new site in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is planned to open this year. Bombardier said the US is a central market, with about half of its fleet operated by US customers, but did not directly comment on Trump's threat.
