Ukraine develops Vyrivnyuvach glide bomb to counter Russian strikes
Ukraine has developed an indigenous glide bomb, the Vyrivnyuvach, to strike Russian ground forces and offset the threat of Russian glide bombs. The weapon, based on standard bombs with a 250kg warhead, was developed in 17 months and entered production in May 2025.
Ukraine has built its own glide bomb, the Vyrivnyuvach, meaning 'The Equaliser', in answer to Russia's long-range glide bombs used during the invasion. Ukrainian defence agency Brave1 said local firm DG Industry developed the weapon.
Brave1 said Ukrainian forces had long faced devastating Russian glide bombs with no symmetric counter. The Vyrivnyuvach is meant to level the frontline and reduce reliance on foreign systems such as Boeing's Joint Direct Attack Munition if shipments slow.
The first version carries a 250kg warhead, based on standard bombs. Development from concept to prototype took 17 months. After successful tests, production began scaling up in May 2025, a year before the weapon was revealed. Brave1 did not disclose details on mid-course and terminal guidance.
