US Small Airports Extend Runways in 2026 with Infrastructure Funds

Several small airports across the United States are extending their runways this year. The projects are backed by federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a $1.2 trillion law signed in 2021. That act set aside $5 billion over five years for airport terminals. This year, additional Fiscal Year 2026 Airport Improvement Program grants from the Federal Aviation Administration are supplementing that money. The FAA distributes those grants to hundreds of airports nationwide based on passenger volume and specific infrastructure needs.
