Volcanic ash suspends flights at Catania airport until Sunday noon
Catania airport on Sicily halted flight operations because of volcanic ash, with airspace sectors closed and all takeoffs and landings suspended until midday Sunday local time.
Sicily's Catania airport has temporarily suspended flights because of volcanic ash. The airport operating company SAC said ash in the atmosphere and the current wind direction closed airspace sectors C1 and B3.
Takeoffs and landings are halted until Sunday, 27 September, at 12:00 local time.
Passengers should check their flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport. SAC said more information would follow in the coming hours.
