Incident Overview
According to the pilot, he had never been to the airport before. During arrival, he landed on Runway 27, which oriented toward the setting sun, and encountered a crosswind from the left. The pilot stated that he touched down firmly on the first third of the runway, after which the aircraft floated briefly. He reported that all wheels were on the ground and the airspeed was below Vso with approximately one-third of the runway remaining.
Braking and Judgement Issues
Full brakes were applied, but due to sunglare, the pilot had difficulty judging the remaining distance. When he realized that he could not stop safely on the runway, he initiated a go-around.
Departure and Accident
After lift-off at the end of the runway, the aircraft mushed into brush and small tree stumps and came to rest about 200 feet from the departure end of the runway.
