Incident Details
A single-engine aircraft was involved in a runway excursion after landing long at an airport. The pilot reported that he first flew over the airport at 1,500 feet to observe the windsock. He then entered a left downwind for Runway 5.
Pilot's Account
On the initial final approach, the pilot executed a go-around because the aircraft was too high. After reentering the traffic pattern, he found himself again high on final approach. This time, he elected to continue the approach rather than perform another go-around.
Outcome
The aircraft landed long on the runway. The pilot attempted to stop the aircraft, but it continued off the runway and came to rest in approximately 3 feet of water.
