Incident Overview
During a training flight, a certified flight instructor (CFI) pulled the throttle to idle to simulate an engine failure. The student pilot applied the emergency procedures for the scenario. After the student attempted to abort the maneuver by advancing the throttle, the engine did not respond. Subsequent attempts to restore power were unsuccessful.
Forced Landing and Collision
During the ensuing forced landing, the aft portion of the aircraft collided with a fence, and the aircraft nosed over.
Post-Accident Engine Check
According to the chief pilot of the flight school, the engine started and operated normally when tested at the accident site.
Environmental Conditions
At the time of the incident, conditions were favorable for serious induction icing at glide power.
