Accident Sequence
The accident occurred during an external load operation. The pilot had just released a load of logs when the helicopter began to drift to one side. This drift caused the long line, which was still attached to the helicopter and had been used for the external load, to become entangled in nearby trees. Realizing the entanglement, the pilot released the long line from the helicopter. However, despite releasing the line, the pilot was unable to maintain control of the aircraft. The helicopter subsequently collided with trees and the terrain.
Pilot Report
After the accident, the pilot reported that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions with the helicopter at the time of the accident. The pilot's statement indicates that the loss of control and subsequent collision occurred without any identified technical issues with the aircraft.
