What happened
During a period of scheduled taxiway maintenance, all runway turnoffs were intended to be barricaded and closed, with the exception of the first available turnoff. Upon landing, the pilot was unable to exit the runway at the first turnoff. The second turnoff was found to be properly barricaded and closed.
The pilot continued taxiing to the end of the runway, where they encountered a turnoff that had not been barricaded as required. After finding this unbarricaded path, the pilot taxied back toward the area of the first turnoff, which was correctly barricaded.
While navigating near the barricaded area, the pilot observed a small dirt road exiting the taxiway. Believing this to be a temporary taxiway established by the maintenance crew, the pilot proceeded along the road toward the ramp. During this maneuver, the right wing of the aircraft struck a sign. The impact caused the aircraft to spin around, resulting in the tail striking a barbed wire fence.
No injuries were reported following the incident.
