Incident Summary
As the airplane rotated for liftoff, the aft cargo door opened. A piece of baggage fell from the aircraft onto the runway. The flight crew continued the takeoff and subsequently landed without further incident.
Crew Reports
The crew reported that the cargo light was not illuminated before departure. However, when the crew attempted to pressurize the aircraft, the light did illuminate.
Inspection Findings
A post-accident inspection disclosed damage to the pressure vessel and the dorsal fin. The damage was consistent with the cargo door opening during the takeoff roll.
Cargo Door Indication
After landing, a check of the cargo door demonstrated that the light indication operated as designed. The system appeared to function normally during ground testing.
