Incident Overview
During a night instrument landing system (ILS) approach, the first officer was pilot flying and landed the airplane. Immediately after touchdown, the aircraft struck a deer that was crossing the runway from left to right. The collision occurred in the vicinity of the left engine.
Post-Collision Actions
Following the impact, the captain shut down the affected engine and subsequently taxied the airplane to the gate without further incident.
Damage Assessment
Post-accident examination of the airplane revealed structural damage to the left engine area. The engine firewall was cracked. Additionally, one propeller blade was bent, and another blade had separated near the hub. The separated portion of the blade was recovered approximately 300 feet from the point of collision.
