Event
A scheduled domestic air carrier flight experienced a landing gear anomaly during the landing rollout. The left main landing gear rotated, resulting in minor damage to the aircraft.
Investigation
A metallurgical examination was conducted on the failed landing gear component. The examination revealed that the landing gear had fractured at the base of the lug. This fracture location contained preexisting fatigue cracks.
Findings
The material composition and hardness of the landing gear were within specified limits. The only nonconformity identified during the investigation was that the lug radii were smaller than the dimensions specified in the engineering drawings.
