What happened
On June 10, 2008, at approximately 1126 UTC, Sudan Airways Flight 109, an Airbus A310-324 with registration ST-ATN, crashed while attempting to land on runway 26 at Khartoum International Airport in Khartoum, Sudan. The flight had originated in Amman, Jordan, with a scheduled intermediate stop in Damascus, Syria. Prior to the accident, the aircraft had diverted to Port Sudan, Sudan, to refuel following an unsuccessful initial landing attempt at Khartoum.
At the time of the accident, thunderstorms were reported in the vicinity of the airport, and the aircraft was operating under IMC (instrument meteorological conditions). The crash resulted in 30 fatalities among the 214 people on board, which included 202 passengers and 12 crew members. The aircraft was destroyed upon impact.
