Landing and Accident Sequence
A single-engine airplane was landing on a 2,331-foot-long and 28-foot-wide asphalt runway. To avoid traveling down the sloped portion of the runway, the pilot applied the brakes. Immediately after brake application, the aircraft swerved to the right, struck a "T" post fence, and came to rest inverted.
Post-Accident Examination
Examination of the airplane revealed that the right-hand lift strut was broken. The left brake was found to be worn, and when tested, it failed to provide adequate braking action. The right brake functioned normally during testing. The airplane's most recent annual inspection had been completed on July 11, 2008.
