Incident Summary
On 11 July 2011, an Airbus A320, registered SX-DVG and operated by Aegean Airlines as flight AEE5443, was scheduled to depart from Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (LROP) to Kerkira/Ioannis-Kapodistrias Airport (LGKR). The aircraft was assigned to take off from runway 08R. During taxi on taxiway A, the aircraft entered runway 08R without receiving clearance from the air traffic control tower.
Details
The ATC controller observed the unauthorized runway incursion and immediately instructed the aircraft to stop. Concurrently, another aircraft, a Boeing 737-700 registered YR-BGI operated by Tarom as flight ROT382, was on approach to the same runway. The controller directed ROT382 to initiate a missed approach procedure. After ROT382 executed the missed approach, the controller cleared AEE5443 for takeoff.
Aftermath
The occurrence was classified as an incident under the category of runway incursion involving a vehicle, aircraft, or person. No injuries were reported, and no damage occurred to any aircraft or property. The investigation was conducted by the Romanian Aeronautical Accident Investigation Board (AAIB).
