Incident Overview
On 14 September 2016, a LOT Polish Airlines EMBRAER ERJ-175 was on approach to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport when the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deployed automatically. The aircraft was operating under flight information region UUUV. The flight crew performed a normal landing and notified the airline's Maintenance Control Center (MCC).
Response and Resolution
Following landing, a line mechanic from Alitalia was called to address the RAT deployment. Using the applicable Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), the mechanic successfully stowed the RAT. The aircraft then operated its return flight to Warsaw with a delay, and that landing was also performed without incident.
Reporting
The event was documented through an Aviation Safety Report (ASR). The operator recorded the incident in its Safety Management System (SMS) database and classified it according to LOT Polish Airlines' criteria. The incident is to be included in the airline's Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) monitored in accordance with the Safety Management Manual.
Investigation
The investigation was overseen by Tomasz Makowski. No formal investigation team was appointed; the operator conducted the investigation. The cause of the incident was not determined, and no safety recommendations were issued.
