What happened
On August 15, 2024, at approximately 1335 mountain daylight time, an Evektor-Aerotechnik AS Harmony LSA, registration N272JT, was involved in an accident near Grants, New Mexico. The flight was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 as a personal flight.
During takeoff from runway 31 at the Grants-Milan Municipal Airport (GNT), the engine lost power while the aircraft was approximately 200 to 300 feet above the ground. The pilot executed a forced landing on the remaining available runway. During the landing roll, the aircraft exited the departure end of the runway, striking a large rock and a shrub. The left main landing gear subsequently separated from the airframe, and the aircraft came to rest upright approximately 600 feet beyond the runway departure end.
The pilot was not injured, though the aircraft sustained substantial damage, including damage to both wings.
