During a supervised solo landing in light crosswind conditions, a student pilot executed a go-around on first approach. On the second landing, the airplane veered left after touchdown, exited the runway, causing the nose gear to collapse and the right wing to strike the ground.

Accident Sequence

A student pilot reported that during his first supervised solo landing, conducted in light and variable crosswind conditions, he initiated a go-around after the wind pushed him off course, leaving him in a poor position to land. On his second approach, he indicated that "everything looked good." However, immediately after the wheels touched down, the airplane veered to the left. He attempted to compensate but "very quickly lost control." Subsequently, the airplane exited the runway to the left, the nose gear collapsed, and the right wing struck the ground.

Examination

A post-accident examination revealed substantial damage to the right wing rear spar. The student pilot reported that there were no pre-impact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
