Introduction
A sport pilot inadvertently applied the wrong engine control input while taxiing his airplane following a local flight, leading to a collision with terrain and substantial damage.
Sequence of Events
The pilot reported that after landing, he was taxiing the airplane to position it for a push back into his hangar. During this taxi, he intended to reduce power but instead advanced the throttle. The airplane subsequently taxied off the movement area, entered a ditch, and struck terrain adjacent to a taxiway.
Damage
The collision resulted in substantial damage to the firewall and forward fuselage of the airplane.
Mechanical Condition
The pilot stated that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with either the airframe or engine that would have prevented normal operation.

In his report, the pilot indicated that the accident occurred solely due to his incorrect throttle input during taxi, with no other contributing factors.
