What happened
On February 28, 2025, at approximately 1800 CST, a Schweizer 269C-1 helicopter was involved in an accident near Alvord, Texas. The aircraft, registration N2027T, was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal use.
According to the pilot, the flight began with a takeoff from his residence. Approximately one mile into the flight, the pilot heard a "pop" sound, followed by a decrease in engine RPM. In response to the loss of power, the pilot attempted to perform an autorotation into a nearby field. During the maneuver, the helicopter flipped over and came to rest in an inverted position.
The accident resulted in no injuries to the pilot, but the aircraft sustained substantial damage to the fuselage, tail boom, and main rotor.
