What happened
An unauthorized flight originated from Pinar del Río Airport when the pilot took control of the aircraft without permission. The flight, which included nine passengers, was intended to travel from Cuba toward Florida. During the journey, the aircraft exhausted its fuel supply while over the Gulf of Mexico. The plane subsequently went down approximately 145 km southwest of Key West.
Following the impact, the crew of the bulk carrier Chios Dream arrived at the scene to assist with the aftermath. Of the ten people on board, there was one fatality and nine survivors were successfully rescued from the water.
