What happened
During the landing phase at Alma-Ata Airport, the aircraft's landing gear failed to support the weight of the plane. This structural failure caused the landing gear to collapse immediately upon touchdown. Following the collapse, the aircraft type slid along the runway surface on its undercarriage belly before eventually coming to a complete stop.
Despite the impact and the subsequent slide, there were no reported fatalities or injuries among the occupants. All individuals on board remained safe throughout the incident.
Findings
Investigations into the event concluded that the aircraft was within its permitted weight limits at the time of arrival. The crew performed a standard and proper touchdown procedure, indicating that the landing itself was not the primary issue. The investigation determined that the primary factor was the failure of the landing gear equipment for reasons that remained undetermined.
