What happened
Shortly after departing from Guryev Airport, the flight crew observed that the aircraft was consuming fuel at a rate significantly higher than anticipated. Upon realizing that the remaining fuel was inadequate to complete the planned journey to the intended destination, the captain initiated a return to the departure airfield.
However, as the flight progressed, it became evident that the fuel levels were too low to safely reach Guryev Airport. To avoid a total engine failure, the crew performed an emergency descent and attempted to land in an open field situated approximately 42 km from the airport. The aircraft impacted the ground in the field and came to a stop.
Findings
- All six occupants of the aircraft successfully evacuated the wreckage without any injuries.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
- The primary factor leading to the emergency was excessive fuel consumption during the cruise phase of the flight.
