What happened
While operating a flight from Kabul to Zaranj, the aircraft was subject to an unauthorized cockpit intrusion by an Iranian security official. This individual commanded the crew to alter their flight path and divert toward Zabol, Iran.
During the approach to the new destination, the captain was fatally shot. Following this violent event, the co-pilot attempted to perform an emergency landing amidst hilly terrain located a short distance from Zabol. The impact resulted in five fatalities among the passengers.
Findings
The aircraft crashed under uncertain circumstances following the hijacking of the flight by the security officer.
