What happened
On the morning of the incident, an aircraft arrived at Serui-Stevanus Rumbewas Airport from Biak at 10:19 local time. While preparing for its final scheduled leg to Jayapura, the aircraft began its takeoff roll on Runway 28. During this initial phase of flight, the crew initiated an aborted takeoff for reasons that remain undetermined.
Following the decision to stop, the aircraft veered toward the left side of the runway. As the plane moved onto soft ground, the landing gear failed, causing the aircraft to slide for several dozen meters. The movement ended near a wooded area adjacent to the airfield. Despite the excursion, all 48 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury.
Findings
- The aircraft departed the paved surface of the runway during an aborted takeoff.
- Loss of undercarriage occurred due to contact with soft terrain.
