What happened
During an approach toward Baguio-Loakan Airport, the flight encountered severe meteorological conditions characterized by heavy rainfall, thunderstorm activity, and a low cloud ceiling. While operating in these low-visibility conditions, the aircraft collided with the side of Mt Ugo, which has an elevation of 2,100 meters. The impact occurred approximately 19 km southeast of the destination airport.
Search efforts located the debris field roughly 80 meters below the mountain's summit, in the vicinity of the Ambuklao Dam. The accident resulted in 50 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the occupants.
Findings
Investigation into the crash determined that the primary factor was controlled flight into terrain while the crew was navigating through adverse weather and restricted visibility.
