Incident Overview
The crew conducted a normal approach to Butuan Airport following an uneventful flight from Manila-Ninoy Aquino Airport. Weather conditions at the time of approach were reported as good.
Landing and Overrun
The aircraft touched down on runway 12/30, which has a length of 1,965 metres. After landing, it was unable to stop within the remaining distance. It overran the runway, descended an embankment, and eventually came to rest in a coconut grove.
Damage and Injuries
The cockpit was partially destroyed during the incident. Both pilots sustained serious injuries, while 32 passengers escaped with minor injuries. The remaining 120 occupants were unharmed. The aircraft itself was damaged beyond repair.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined that the aircraft landed too far down the runway, reducing the available landing distance.
